Keep it MBAchic: Met Gala-inspired graduation looks
If you’re taking finals during your last semester your MBA, graduation is essentially the light at the end of the finals week tunnel. This week, Workwear Wednesday took a celebratory turn, and we found you some Met Gala-inspired graduation looks for under your cap and gown. Because formality of graduation events can vary (a ceremony at eight in the morning will have a different vibe from a 6pm show-stopping affair), we’ve gathered a couple of outfits inspired by some of our favorite Met Gala-inspired graduation looks (we left the *on*-red-carpet outfit changes to Lady Gaga). If you’re about to cross that commencement stage, be sure to reach out for some MBAchic stickers for your cap, too!
Met Gala picks (some you’ve seen on IG, some you haven’t)
This was a *lot* of fun to pull together – here are some of the fun looks we found, inspired by stars walking the pink carpet at the Met Gala this Monday (all Met Gala pictures are from Getty Images via Vogue.com, unless otherwise credited):
Lady Gaga’s four-part look by Brandon Maxwell was in short, iconic, and also inspires us to pick this [on brand for us] Decklin dress from Likely (a few left, on sale at Revolve)
Ava DuVernay’s gorgeous Prada number inspires this classically beautiful Calvin Klein flounce-hem sheath dress that is flattering on all silhouettes
Serena Williams’ fresh pink and yellow combo by Versace inspired a few looks: this beautiful flutter sleeve dress found by Larisa le fleur in a “random shop” in Nigeria and this spot-on jumpsuit by Nina Leonard (now less than $30 at Nordstrom Rack). **UPDATE: Also recently launched is Aimee Song’s Song of Style x Revolve collection featuring this gorgeous top which could be paired with a skirt or matching pant to add a touch of drama or glam to your big day.
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s coordinating vintage couture Chanel looks are emulated in this laser cut floral faux leather Michael Kors look that’s currently 30% off at Spring.
Candice Swanepoel’s powder blue Prabal Gurung was so fresh against the pink carpet and this Paper Dolls look delivers the same vibes – this look comes in plus and tall on ASOS – and both are less than $100. Similar petite style is linked here!
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looks so glam in this Oscar de la Renta dress and the Elise lace dress by Bardot definitely gives us old Hollywood vibes. It’s graduation-appropriate, and also great if you’re graduating outdoors and need something light that, let’s be real, won’t show any perspiration while you’re melting under the sun.
Dua Lipa’s Versace look brought back the SS 1991 Elton John print, and we found two options (ok, one realistic option) for your big day: a now-$992 Maison Margiela in a luxe satin-y fabric, and a less-than-$100 Laundry by Shelli Segal suit (jacket and pants) at Nordstrom Rack. Love this entire vibe.
We love Eva Chen’s entire Prabal Gurung look, but really loved the oversized bow on the back. This REISS Cheyenne Bow Back dress is elegant enough for your graduation while in keeping with the theme. Love the draping in the front, and the fact that it’s two-tone as well; currently 15% off at Nordstrom. Photo by @evachen212.
More graduation looks because… we need options
We had fun pulling looks inspired by the stars but also pulled tons more looks to share. Some are inspired by looks, and others we found while searching and had to include. Here are a few more grad looks to help you get ready for your big day! Congratulations, again!
