#MBAchicTakeover – Hawa on COVID life as a Simon MBA & entrepreneur
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes
This week, Hawa Sultani takes over to share a day in the life of a Simon MBA and entrepreneur. As she brought us from her home to her restaurant on K Street in Sacramento, CA, she described to us the ways her company, Crest Cafe, is adapting to the challenges presented by COVID-19, and how they’re supporting their community, and offering a view into how her classes at Simon have shifted online. She discussed her roots and original career path in medicine, and how she made the decision to pivot, offering advice and valuable insights. It was great to hear her approach to the business school decision and determining exactly what she wanted out of the process.
One of the many inspiring messages she shared was to make sure you’re making the best decision for yourself. Be thoughtful about who you are, what makes you happy, and what impact you want to have on the world. There are always commentators and critics and those offering their input; you need to do what is best for you. She pivoted from healthcare into business via a shift to running a small business with her mother. She’s taking a restaurant with an incredibly empowering mission (employing and uplifting refugee women in the community), and helping to modernize and scale the concept to take it to the next level.
