Keep it MBAchic: be a trailblazer – blazer looks while shifting to spring

MBAchic picks the best blazer looks for spring

As we move further into spring, we find ourselves navigating tricky weather while refreshing our style for the season. Personally I’ve always loved using blazers to turn up a look and mix things up. This week we’ve got some of the best blazer looks while shifting to spring to help you freshen up your style without breaking the bank.

Blazer looks for spring

Be sure to send us your favorite blazer looks for spring and we’ll add them to this post for the rest of us.

Plaid patterns reign supreme

While Meghan Markle’s Serena Boss Blazer is currently sold out, we were able to find some great alternatives from Maje, BB Dakota (Shopbop), Mango and About Us (Revolve). The oversized look is refreshing (especially if you scrunch / roll / cuff the sleeves to 3/4 length) and keeps it a bit more casual than our usual look, but pair these with a straight leg or cropped pant and you’ve got a new office uniform that works both in your freezing office and your warmer (/boiling) commute.

Peplum not going anywhere

queen letizia of spain wears a fitted, cropped peplum jacket with a matching skirt and classic black pumps
Trends come and go, but the peplum waist is too flattering to nix, as far as we are concerned. Another royal style icon, Queen Letizia of Spain, paired hers with a pencil skirt for a classic combo, and we found a BOSS one on sale at Nordstrom Rack, a grey ponte stretch option at Torriid, a Sejour plus size jacket on a crazy sale at Nordstrom and a structured JCrew option in bi-stretch cotton that’s 30% off online only (code: SHOPNOW). There are so many options out there – jump on it!

A punch of MBAchic pink

mary orton or memorandum wears a punchy pink / magenta power suit that is similar to the MBAchic brand pink
Mary Orton of MEMORANDUM is always serving the best office fashions. Love this punchy pink suit, but if you’re not looking to pull off an entirely pink look, we found this classic fit at Banana Republic, this slit cuff option that’s currently 50% off at Express, this investment piece if you’re playing the long pink blazer game at Theory, and a more muted option at Mango. We also found rentable options on Rent the Runway: this 3.1 Philip Lim look and this by Slate & Willow, so you can work it without dipping into your savings account.

We are long boyfriend blazers & dresses

jessica alba pairs a dark oversized blazer with a white dress to layer up with a fresh look for the new season
Jessica Alba wore this combo a couple of years ago but it’s still so fresh for spring. Would swap out those yellow pumps for a more neutral pump for the office and this would be a perfect transitional look for my office. We found this oversized blazer at Everlane (shown in black but has a plaid option, to add to the previous look we shared), the Madewell Tribune at Nordstrom, this peak lapel option from Express, and this investment piece from Theory. There are literally hundreds of options out there – find one that works with your proportions and makes you feel like a million bucks.

Rock prominent hardware

Ok we have been loving Legallee Blonde’s fashion and lifestyle content, and absolutely love this gorgeous blue velvet jacket (also love the nod to velvet which we’ll dig into, soon). We’ve found a ton of options, including this white, frayed, almost military-inspired look from Zara, this double breasted jacket in multiple colors from H&M, the zippered look from Express (this one at Bloomingdale’s if that’s sold out), this Opening Ceremony stunner at Net-a-Porter, this double-breasted stretch from Lane Bryant and this red Olivia Culpo collab on sale at Bloomingdale’s. In the past I’ve swapped out buttons at my cleaners, so if you have a blazer you absolutely love, consider swapping out some gold or silver hardware to pump up the volume for the new season.

All white everything

olivia palermo cuffed a beautiful white blazer up to the elbow, adding a fresh-spin to a classic blazer
Olivia Palermo’s style is always on point. We love this cuffed blazer and found a number of white blazer looks that span the formal<–>casual continuum. There’s the best-selling 1-button blazer by Ann Taylor, the J.Crew Parke in bi-stretch cotton, this 1.STATE Textured Crepe Blazer, this two-button option by H&M, this Upas cape jacket by BCBG Max Azria (a couple of cheaper versions of this left in smaller sizes at NY&Co!) and this Veronica Beard Cosmo Dickey Jacket you can rent at Rent the Runway. Not sure how good you are about staining clothes, but we’re sending thoughts and prayers and well wishes that you keep this look pristine. Also suggest you stock up on some Tide pens.

Lightweight linen suiting

anh of 9to5chic showcased a linen blazer paired with a white dress and this is the casual office look we didn't know we needed
One of our faves Anh of 9to5chic recently showcased this spring suit made of linen and we dig it. Linen, while tricky to keep wrinkle-free, is so perfect for this season. We’ve got a few of these looks for you, and can’t seem to choose just a couple of them – check back below for more. There’s this cotton-linen dusty blue by Everlane, the Chambray Hutton at Ann Taylor, this Eileen Fisher open front plus size option in blush, this linen blazer in multiple colors by Mango, this investment piece by Theory and this linen-blend option by H&M. I’m still not 100% sold on linen pants, so if you know how to avoid that weird creasing thing it does right by the crotch, please send advice my way — would love to rock a linen suit sometime soon.

Cinched waists via belts & ties

this massimo dutti gray tie waist blazer and suit pairing inspired a cinched-waist look that can be recreated season after season
This Massimo Dutti look is no longer available (fall colors, yes, I know) but I’m really loving this cinched waist. Playing with different blazer silhouettes definitely helps liven up classic looks, and what better way than with a jacket that creates a simple hourglass look without veering off into the too-sexy-for-work lane? Love this MM.LaFleur tie waisted jacket which available in two colors, this belted blazer by Zara, this mint TOPSHOP belted blazer, this midnight blue Laundry by Shelli Segal we love (we shared the other color last week for grad looks) and this punchy red-orange number from ASOS Design. If you’re wondering if it’s too tight, size up so you can be comfortable and worry-free.

More that we are loving – send in your favorites for us to share!
