Keep it MBAchic: warm, work-friendly, wooly winter coats
Love this time of year… when the temperature is dropping faster than resumes during recruiting season (better than a joke about GPAs…). The crisp, chill air means that it’s time for chic wooly coats. While a good marshmallow/puffer-type jacket keeps us warm, the risk of a hot Subway ride leaving us all disheveled heading in is just too much to handle, so consider them nixed entirely during the workweek. Luckily a wooly winter coat is the perfect piece to set off your winter commuting look, so let’s get into these.
Note: this article was meant to publish a few weeks ago, so links to sold out coats have been cleaned up… but the great news is that most of these classics are now on sale, so grab yours before they sell out, too!

A classic high collar coat is polished and chic. This one by REISS is on sale, but available in limited sizes in black, navy and stone. If you’re not looking to spend quite as much without skimping on style, check out these options by Kenneth Cole and Zara for under $150.
Plaid and checked coats are on trend right now and what better way than to share one from Danish favorite this year, GANNI; this double-breasted checked wool coat is currently 40% off and so stylish.
Find more different checked options at Zara, cupcakes and cashmere and one at Lane Bryant for less than $90.

MBAchic pink has been trending for some time so of course it’s going to be part of this Workwear Wednesday collection. This sleek, chic pink coat by Helene Berman will brighten any cold winter day.
Similar options are all on sale and can be found at JCrew, Eloquii (use code MERRY to pay less than $90) and at DKNY for Macy’s.
A long grey coat is so luxe and does wonders to break up the usual sea of black and navy on the streets; this stunning number is by Veronica Beard.
Sharing more gorgeous options on sale at Aritzia and REISS. Grab them before they run out! Still searching for a plus-size option, here, will update once it’s spotted.

Winter whites always work, and this coat is no exception — that ruffle is subtle but so chic. This Lafayette 148 coat is no small purchase, but a classic that will last you year after year.
We also found more affordable options (in the $200 to $350 range), from Lauren Ralph Lauren, AllSaints and Mango.
Love the vibe of a bold, red coat. Whatever you’re wearing, throw one on and the entire look is made. This Mango coat is under $80 right now, and the perfect length.
Also check out these double-breasted options by Mango and Lane Bryant (with an added fur collar). Simply gorgeous, all of these.

You really can’t ever go wrong with a classic camel coat. Love the length and proportions of this one by Anne Klein – it also happens to be 45% off so act quickly if you’re into it.
For a more relaxed look, try this cocoon, oversized coat by Everlane or this belted number by & Other Stories. Also don’t miss this Halogen one on 50% sale or this plus-size option by Lauren Ralph Lauren.
The drapey belted look is arguably more on trend due to a certain actress-turned-royal favoring them, and I’m so here for it. These are gorgeous coats that you can dress up for work and dress down for a night out on the weekend. Love this rich Ted Baker London belted coat (the site calls it Dark Brown but it really seems to photograph as more of a cabernet / wine color).
Meghan Markle could easily be spotted in this Mackage coat (if she hasn’t been already), or this one by Calvin Klein (love the oatmeal; comes in a number of colors, and is 40% off – a similar plus size option by Lane Bryant is here), or even this Cole Haan one that also comes in a number of colors and is 46% off.
