Giveaway: let’s go back to bschool
Let’s kick off this year with a back to bschool giveaway. We’ve all been talking about new semester vibes, so to celebrate the start of a new term and being a little over a year into our relaunch of MBAchic, we are giving away our very own back to bschool kits, to give two sets of friends!
The idea behind this platform / resource and community is to make investing in your education, career and self more accessible, and curating kits like this and our MBA/job interview survival kit are a fun way of helping you crush the semester’s goals.
We’ve partnered with some amazing brands & Professor (as sponsors of some of the items inside) to curate our very own back to bschool kits.
And we get to have FOUR (4) winners – two sets of friends – so make sure you spread the word!
Inside each winning kit you’ll find:
Edge: Turning Adversity into Advantage by Laura Huang
Harvard Business School Professor Laura Huang (www.laurahuang.net) generously provided a signed copy of her upcoming book Edge: Turning Adversity into Advantage published by Portfolio Books. This book shows that success is about gaining an edge: that elusive quality that gives you an upper hand and attracts attention and support. Some people seem to naturally have it, but Huang reveals that we actually can create our own, shaping the challenges and biases that we previously believe hold us back, to turn them into our strengths. How do you find a competitive edge when the obstacles feel insurmountable? How do you get people to take you seriously when they’re predisposed not to, and perhaps have already written you off? Professor Huang has come up against that problem many times–and so has anyone who’s ever felt out of place or underestimated. Many of us sit back quietly, hoping that our hard work and effort will speak for itself. Or we try to force ourselves into the mold of who we think is “successful,” stifling the creativity and charm that makes us unique and memorable. This book discusses how to discover and own your uniqueness, leverage that as your strength, and keep it sharp.
EyeJust Blue Light Blocking iPhone Screen Protector
We spend hours each day on our devices. That’s not just a bschool thing, but the time spent poring over case studies and cruising LinkedIn and Canvas or Blackboard isn’t good for our eyes and sleep patterns. EyeJust (www.eyejust.com) is dedicated to developing simple solutions for your phone and computer screens, so you can avoid the downsides of digital and the harmful rays of blue light.
Their screen protectors are easy-to-use and seamlessly fit into your everyday life – just apply like any other screen protector and get back to your daily digital life. I’ve had my iPhone covered for almost a year and love it, and wanted to share the wealth! They’ve generously sponsored one iPhone Blue Light Blocking Screen Protector in each of our kits, so you can live your best digital life.
Six months of full digital access to The Economist
The Economist has generously sponsored, for each winner, six months of full digital access, including Economist.com, The Economist apps, Espresso morning briefing, audio edition, newsletters and podcasts.
“Founded in 1843 to support the cause of free trade, The Economist is and always has been, a publication of sometimes radical opinion with a reverence for facts. It is firmly established as one of the world’s most authoritative and influential publications—offering clear reporting, commentary and analysis on world current affairs, business, finance, science and technology, culture, society, media and the arts.”
The Economist is a must-read for future executives, C-suite members, founders and leaders around the world. Delivering rich analysis and smart takes on what’s happening in today’s rapidly-changing world, it will not only prepare you for the second semester of the school year, but also inform your thinking as you dive into recruiting, prepare for graduation and angle for that next promotion or assignment. The Economist teaches you to take a broader view of current events and helps sift out what’s really important… you’ll feel smarter as a regular reader. Early on in my career, it helped instill a global perspective that made me a stronger player on teams that spanned regions and time zones, and certainly prepared me for roles both here and abroad. And Bill Gates, Angela Merkel and most U.S. presidents since JFK regularly read The Economist, so you’re certainly going to be in good company.
Dryel At-Home Dry Cleaning Kit
Dryel (https://dryel.com/) kindly sponsored each of our back to bschool kits with their at-home dry cleaning starter kit. The number of bschool events requiring business casual wear, especially in the thick of recruiting, is staggering, and the dry cleaning bills can seriously add up.
Dryel is the best way to safely and thoroughly clean your special care clothes at home. The Fabric Protection Bag protects clothes and concentrates the gentle cleaning vapor from the Dryer Activated cleaning cloth for optimal cleaning performance. No fading, shrinking, or stretching like is often caused by wet washing or dry cleaning.
I’ve been a fan for years; it works in the convenience of your dryer in as little as 15 minutes and saves up to 90% of the cost of dry cleaning. So, when you have suits, dresses, or even jeans and sweaters that need to be cleaned, skip the hassle, expense, and harsh chemicals of the dry cleaner.
Some pro tips:
- If you wear just the jacket or bottom of a suit separately, make sure you Dryel both items together (the way you would do if you’d taken them to the dry cleaner). That way, even though Dryel is easier on your fabrics than dry cleaning, both parts of the suit will match in tone and finish as you continue to wear and care for them.
- Even if you’re way behind on laundry, don’t stuff your Dryel bag! You want to make sure it’s able to work its magic, which is impossible if you’ve crammed seven blazers into a single bag. Spread things out, and you’ll have the best results.
- Test your fabrics! If you’re going to spray the odor/wrinkle releaser, be sure you’re spraying from a distance to prevent any bubbles from leaving a mark (if you’re not sure, start with the items inside-out to see how well they do). Same goes for the spot / stain pen: test how your fabrics react by treating a small corner on the inside of the hem, or on some other spot that isn’t visible when you’re wearing it, and you should be good!
MBAchic-sponsored merch and Moleskine notebooks
It’s no secret I love Moleskine notebooks (www.moleskine.com). For years they’ve been my go-to for capturing work notes, school notes, to-do lists and random ideas that come to mind. As digitally and technologically savvy as we are, there’s something different about putting pen to paper when coming up with ideas, projects and plans for building your empire (obviously).
Included in each back to bschool kit is a set of two ruled notebooks, featuring pink covers and 96 acid-free pages – I’ve got a stack of filled classic notebooks but love the softcover of these and how they’re a bit more portable than my usual go-to. Will look to add these to my own rotation and hopefully we can make some custom MBAchic notebooks happen in the future – Moleskine, let’s do this. <3
Naturally, a back to bschool giveaway from MBAchic is going to include some of our own branded merchandise. In each kit you’ll find two new pieces we love. First you’ll receive the C-Suite Dreams tote, which is a chic, durable way to carry your business [school notes] while you handle your business. It’s one of our more popular items, and for good reason.
Another recent favorite is this MBAchic cool logo tumbler; sip your iced coffee, soft drinks or water and keep it moving like the hydrated boss that you are. Love how the logo pops on the clear finish and that smart ridged detail on the straw that doesn’t allow it to fall out (simple but so practical; if you know, you know).
Additionally, you’ll find some surprises, stationery and other swag that we’ve got over here at HQ, so you can help spread the word and share us with your friends.
