#MBAchicTakeover – Chilufya Mulenga, controller & MAcc at Cambridge

This week, Chilufya Mulenga takes over to share a day as a financial controller and MAcc student at Cambridge’s Judge Business School. At the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School, classes are virtual due to coronavirus. Since she’s studying at home, Chilli shared her part-time MAcc program experience while working as a financial controller for a Series A startup in London.
She shared some of her coursework, how she manages everything virtually and even offered a glimpse into her classes. We learned about her academic and professional journey, and how she pivoted careers when she ultimately realized medicine wasn’t her calling. She also offered advice for anyone trying to decide between the MBA and a specialized Masters program like the MAcc.
Her advice for managing part-time Masters student life along with a full-time job is spot-on. She emphasizes the importance of knowing what you want and setting the boundaries you need. Chilli also shared insights on the different approach to topics her specialized masters takes and leaves the door open for future schooling, too.

I hope this is helpful, and insightful. It’s really important we show diversity within the MBA sector and specialized Masters programs. I know that as a Black woman, it can be really intimidating applying for these courses, not knowing if you’ll fit in – or get in – or what that looks like. I want to show you that it can be done, and you can be a strong Black woman…. you can achieve what you want. Hope that this shows that it’s achievable.
